Upcoming Events

  • The Villa Happy Hour

    Wednesday, February 22nd, 2017 | 5:30 PM 4:00 AM

You want to feel like a Good Fella? Come by The Villa between 5:30 & 7:30, make your way up the hill and have some ambiance and old-school mangia and drinks, like Vegas in the 60s, baby.

Big plus is drink special until 7:30 and food special all evening. We'll be in the bar by the windows facing the door, in case one of the other families comes in and wants some trouble. OK, it'll just be us WIMPs. :)

Let me know when if you can make so we can give them a final number the day before. Hope to see you there.

  • Put an "S" on it: Moving from HTTP to HTTPS for a Large Publishing Site

    Monday, February 27th, 2017 | 6:30 PM 8:00 PM

The internet is abuzz - HTTPS everywhere. Unfortunately, getting there is major undertaking. Join our own Jake Spurlock as he discusses the process of implementing HTTPS by default on wired.com

He will walk through selling the idea internally, preparing the site for HTTPS, and monitoring it after the launch. He will also outline an approach for an HTTPS transition that anyone can use.

If you've been thinking of switching yours or your client's sites to https (you know you should), you'll come away with an actionable plan and a clearer understanding of how and why it matters.

    PLEASE NOTE NEW LOCATION!

WIMP meetings start at 6:30 and presentations start a little after at 7:00, so don't rush. Parking is available in campus parking lots and there is a limited amount of parking in the adjacent neighborhood in the evenings. Please note parking rules if you go that route.

Please bring nosh if you would like to nosh, water or soda. Thanks.

  • Task List Holy War!

    Monday, March 27th, 2017 | 6:30 PM 4:00 AM

In some circles the choice of browser, programmers' editor, or operating systems are topics that incite arguments with no peaceful resolution.

When it comes to the tools used to organize teams and tasks, the passions can also run pretty high.

That's why you're likely to be entertained AND informed when we assemble our panel of expert advocates to talk about why each of them likes the tools they choose for this purpose.

Whether you prefer Basecamp, Remember the Milk. Slack, Outlook, or Asana, you'll almost certainly see something new for yourself as our panel talks about their success stories and pet peeves.

Vincent Lowe moderates and will endeavor to (mostly) keep the peace.

You probably have clients come to you asking about email marketing. Do you know what to say? What are the benefits and pitfalls of email marketing and WHY is it so important. Our own Stormy Knight will cover the basics of Email Marketing, with an emphasis on the Easy & Effective parts. • Holiday Party!!

    Tuesday, December 13th, 2016 | 5:30 PM 4:00 AM

LINK Creative, North Bay Office Furniture, Professional Marketing Group and North Bay Designers have teamed up this year to ring in the holidays (with support from WIMP)!

This collaboration is a great way for our different groups to meet one another, do a bit of networking, and make new friends!

    • Food will be catered by Chandi Brothers (Mountain Mikes, Stouts, Bibi's, etc.)

    • We will have some delicious and award-winning wines fromWilliamson Wines and Taft Street Winery. (We'll also be serving non-alcoholic drinks for those who prefer not to imbibe.)

    • We will also have a 'Keg-Nog' station. (Don't worry--the keg of beer and egg nog will be separate.)

    • Festive baked goods will be provided by WIMP.

    • Dave Wasley will be playing piano, but at the end of the night, we will probably do some (not-so-impromptu) karaoke.

    • Holiday Movies! For your viewing pleasure, we will probably be playing some of the following: Die Hard, Bad Santa, Gremlins, Home Alone, Scrooged, The Nightmare Before Christmas, National Lampoon's Christmas, Ernest Saves Christmas, and Elf.

Your RSVP is appreciated so we can estimate how much food/drink to get. Thanks and see you soon!

IMPORTANT Notes for the WIMP kids - If you have a baked good that is your holiday specialty, please bring a plateful to the event. I'll be baking the weekend before and I want to see if you can beat my "Seriously better than most of my boyfriends" bars.

Also, if you are also in NBD or PMG, please choose only one to RSVP to. It will make the numbers work better that way.

  • Entrepreneur's & Contractor's Guide to Corporations & Contracts + Potluck

    Monday, October 24th, 2016 | 6:00 PM 8:00 AM

Entrepreneurs and independent contractors may not be aware of the legal aspects and pitfalls of the work they are doing. Come to our presentation to get a lawyer's perspective on what you need to know about serving clients as a small business or working as a freelancer. He is excited to have the opportunity to talk to you about:

    - The difference between being an employee and being an entrepreneur or an independent contractor;

    - The basics of legal contracts;

    - What you need to know about intellectual property such as patents, trademarks and copyrights; and

    - What the benefits are of forming a corporation or a limited liability company ("LLC")

Daniel Raff is a business and real estate attorney in Petaluma. As part of his practice, he represents independent contractors, small business owners, construction contractors, and a variety of real estate clients. A former prosecutor, he started his practice when he moved to Petaluma after his girlfriend was hired as a veterinarian at a local clinic. He loves Sonoma County (especially the wine) and is looking forward to starting a family here.

From Stormy: Also, please feel free to bring nosh to share with your fellow WIMPs. Thanks!
